Through interventions En–Knap expands choreography beyond the theatre through site-specific works, public events, celebrations, ceremonies and openings.

En–Knap has created choreographic interventions and artistic direction for major public events, national celebrations, institutional openings and award ceremonies. From Statehood Day and Independence and Unity Day celebrations to the openings of Viba Film Studios, Delo Printing House and the Župančič Awards, dance becomes a way of marking collective memory and public life.

Alongside these commissioned projects, community-driven formats such as Moste Open, Hidden Dance Walk and Bal Moderne bring choreography into everyday urban life – to neighbourhood streets and squares, along the Ljubljanica River and in collaboration with local schools, youth centres and community partners. Project E explores dance through encounters with places, communities and landscapes.

In these contexts, choreography enters squares, monuments, factories, cultural institutions, heritage sites and ceremonial spaces, bringing contemporary dance into dialogue with histories, values and communities. En–Knap is outward-looking, allowing choreography to meet everyday movement. Urban dance, folklore, contemporary and social dance, ageing bodies, wheelchairs and wheeled movement, music, education and civic interventions coexist within a shared public environment.

At the beginning of each season, Španski Borci Cultural Centre organises Moste Open, a neighbourhood-wide event that creates a direct dialogue with the local community. Together with Moste Youth Station, programme partners, local associations and schools, it activates the public space in front of the venue, temporarily transforming the parking area and everyday infrastructure into a vibrant public space for sharing practices and inviting audiences to enjoy performances, workshops, concerts and cuisine.

An event open to the community, and a community open to the event. Care for one another goes hand in hand with care for the environment; imagination is paired with solidarity, becoming choreographic principles in themselves. Many activities also take place along the Ljubljanica River, extending the event beyond the venue and connecting with neighbourhoods along its banks.

Hidden Dance Walk is a participatory urban dance project originally developed by Honne Dohrmann. Guided through the city, small groups of participants discovered dance in unexpected locations such as bridges, churches, hospitals, parks and sports halls. First presented in Ljubljana in 2015, the project transformed an ordinary walk into a choreographic encounter, embedding movement in the everyday life of the city.

Bal Moderne is a lively outdoor social dance event rather than a dance class. Created in 1993 by Michel Reilhac and organized by Oonagh Duckworth it invites participants to learn choreographies by leading contemporary choreographers with the guidance of dance leaders and volunteers. People of all ages and backgrounds dance together, often hand in hand, sharing a unique sense of solidarity and united by the simple joy of movement. And above all, everyone has a wonderful time!

Veni, Vidi, Dansi brings dance closer to everyone, regardless of previous knowledge or experience. Participants get moving, learn simple dance sequences and, through moving together, discover that dance can be fun, engaging and accessible to all. Veni, Vidi, Dansi is an interactive dance workshop primarily designed for children and young people. The dancers of En–Knap often offer it in connection with Stage360, directly at schools. After experiencing selected VR works in the classroom or attending a live dance performance at the theatre, the children gather in the school gym—or on stage, in a dance studio or another suitable larger space—where they translate what they have previously experienced as spectators into movement and explore it through their own bodies.

Under the artistic direction of Mattia Cason, En–Knap Group continues to explore choreography beyond the stage, through direct encounters with places, communities, and landscapes. This approach grows out of the practices Mattia has developed within his artistic Project E and his work in the Slovenian–Italian border region. Here, dance emerges through being present in the world: by walking, observing, listening, and meeting others. The experiences gathered along the way become part of the creative process, inscribed in the body as embodied memory before returning to the studio and the stage. In this way, places themselves begin to speak through the pre-verbal language of the body.
