Double Bill: Decision Order

Set to the music of Igor Stravinsky, this contemporary dance performance by Matjaž Farič explores the tension between structure and movement. Drawing inspiration from the composer's rigorous formal logic, Farič approaches order as the fundamental impulse behind choreography. Rather than telling a story, the performance unfolds through rhythm, precision and spatial composition, creating a series of evocative stage atmospheres.

The performance explores the constant stream of commands, expectations and pressures imposed by contemporary society. Performed by five dancers from Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey and England, it unfolds through a distinctive combination of movement and text. Rather than following a linear narrative, the work moves between fragments of remembered instructions and imperatives—orders so persistent and influential that they have become embedded in the dancers' memories.

These commands form the core of the performance, as each dancer confronts and responds to them through their own cultural background, personal history and lived experience. Divided by a diagonal line, the stage presents two parallel realities: one built from the precise dance vocabulary that shapes the dancers' professional lives, and the other from experiences and memories drawn from beyond the studio.

Matjaž Farič is a choreographer, director, dancer and artistic director of Flota Institute. One of the leading figures of Slovenian contemporary dance since the 1980s, he has created numerous original dance and theatre productions while collaborating with dance companies, theatres and opera houses in Slovenia and abroad. His international collaborations include Studio for Contemporary Dance Zagreb, Diversions Dance Company (Cardiff) and Compagnie Coline (France), alongside extensive work with major Slovenian theatres. He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, including the Prešeren Fund Award, the Župančič Award, the Golden Bird Award, the Borštnik Festival Award, and the Grand Prize at the International Biennial Competition of Choreographers in Seine-Saint-Denis, France.
