Iztok Kovač is a choreographer and founder of En–Knap. Following the international success of his solo How I Caught a Falcon (1991), he became one of the key figures in the development of Slovenian contemporary dance. He founded En–Knap Group, Slovenia's first permanent contemporary dance ensemble, and serves as artistic director of both En–Knap and the Španski borci Cultural Centre. His works have toured internationally for more than three decades. Additionally, his artistic practice includes six dance films, international pedagogical work, guest choreography and the direction of major national events in Slovenia. During the Covid period, he initiated Stage360, developing dance works in virtual reality.
The performance uncovers the lid of history to release the ghost and the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the bustle of high-powered and skillful combinations of six contemporary dancers and playful music by Tomaž Grom, the icon of the Austrian wunderkind is pinned to the background of his turbulent life decisively marked by the unstable nature of hypomanic episodes which serve as a driving force of the performance’s creative process. The performance criss-crosses the choreographic principles of Iztok Kovač with the composition principles of Mozart to arrive at an energetic and highly calibrated atmosphere which aliens the stage space into a pulse-accelerating and rhythmic landscape of thrilling dance images beneath a kinetic construction by Attila Csörgő.
