A portrait of 84-year-old life model Diana Mukuma, who reflects on her body, what it means to her, and the many lives it has lived. A body that has been observed, represented and understood in different ways over the years is given a voice of its own. Rather than looking at the body from the outside, the film creates space for a personal reflection on its experience, memory and value.

The film moves beyond the body as an object of observation and turns towards its lived experience and the passage of time. At a moment when bodies are so often discussed through ideals, appearance and constant self-improvement, Not Just a Bowl of Fruit asks a simple question: what is a body before it becomes an image?

Late Night Movies

The new festival section gathers films that take us somewhere a little less polite: into desire, fantasy, awkwardness, bodies, obsessions and the strange things that happen after dark. These are films that allow dance and moving image to become playful, intimate, absurd or provocative—and that are perhaps best watched when the lights are low and conventional decorum has already gone to bed.

bio

Greta Griniūtė is a Lithuanian writer and director whose work combines humour, striking visual imagery and unconventional characters. After finishing high school, she moved to the UK to study physical theatre and acting, before continuing to Italy, where she worked as an assistant director with the theatre company MOTUS. She later received a scholarship to study filmmaking in Los Angeles, where she continued developing her practice as a writer and director.

Her filmmaking career began at the international film festival Cinemademare, where she wrote and directed several short films while collaborating on numerous other projects. In 2019, she wrote and directed Tickle My Pickle, which screened at festivals internationally, including LA Shorts, and received the Best Film award at ARFF Berlin. She completed an MA in Directing Fiction at Goldsmiths, University of London, and furthered her training at Prague Film School. Her subsequent short films Rice & Bread (2020) and The First Sunday After the First Full Moon (2021) were also selected for international festival programmes. She is currently developing her debut feature film Independent Child.
