This physical poetry of six bodies unfolds in hypnotic cycles of attraction and repulsion, held together by an intense, binding rhythm. Through miniature movements, archetypal landscapes and biotopes emerge and dissolve before our eyes, shaped by a strikingly futuristic atmosphere that feels both otherworldly and deeply human. The topology of Cut is established and disappears, formed and deformed through the disturbances that cause cuts. As in the case of the Möbius strip, these cuts are paradoxical, as they change the topological space without actually breaking it. What they uncover is a multitude of gaps, wherein a cut paradoxically acts as a glue that binds the void in ever new forms, relations and significations, until a new event emerges, which again cuts into the continuum.

Every life has its ruptures. A cut is an end — but it is also a beginning.

Góbi’s choreographic language moves between lines and waves, form and energy, the geometric and the abstract, saturation and minimalism. Within these collisions, she is especially drawn to spaces of discontinuity – where material bounces, breaks, and potentiality emerges. In this exploration, the choreographer remains committed to the sufficiency of bodies, observing their placement and (dis)connection within the shared space of existence. The dramaturgical ruptures therefore never emerge from external interventions that would impose a spectacular dimension onto the performance, but rather from internal disruptions within the work’s fundamental components — movement material, electronic music, and lighting design — and within their means and intentions.

Cut is a study of disruptions — spatial, temporal, bodily, acoustic, luminous, and dramaturgical. With most of my works I first “paint the pictures” and then interpret them. This was also the case with Cut. Together with dramaturgical collaborator Sara Živković, we analyzed the instinctively born movements and scenes. It was our first time working together, but I feel as if we’ve known each other forever. We really were in tune with each other.

I enjoy watching the dancers and seeing how my continuously evolving training prepares and supports them in the technical execution of the performance. I improvised a lot, and out of that the language of the work was born. Once the core material took shape, the performers really chewed on it, adapted it to themselves, and further developed the movement material. The individual solos are personal, because they could freely choose from what spontaneously flowed out of me.

Rita Góbi is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator born in Novi Sad. She graduated from the Hungarian Dance Academy in Budapest and has participated in numerous international residencies, including OMI DANCE (USA), SE.S.TA–KoresponDance (Czech Republic), and the Japanese Foundation (Tokyo). As a dancer, she has worked with Ballet Pécs, Yvette Bozsik Company, The Symptoms, and Eva Duda Company, and collaborated with film director Miklós Jancsó. As an educator, she teaches at the Ágnes Nemes Nagy Art Secondary School, the Sára Berczik Budai Dance Club and the University of Theatre and Film Arts, and regularly leads workshops in Hungary and abroad.

In 2006, she founded Góbi Dance Company, creating contemporary dance productions, interactive performances for children, and interdisciplinary projects. Her solo piece Volitant has received several national and international awards, including Aerowaves Twenty18 – Priority Artist. Her works, including Vibration and Freestyle, regularly tour worldwide.
