This playful and interactive event for your classroom and gym opens the door to the world of contemporary dance. Equipped with VR headsets, young audiences are stepping directly into the performance, experiencing dance from the centre of the action and closer to the dancers than ever before.

Beware, Dance! 360 invites them to discover how dance is created and how every body has its own unique way of expressing itself. What do dancers think about when they dance? Where do ideas for performances come from? And why do some people call rolling on the floor art? Everything you always wanted to know about contemporary dance and never dared to ask!

Featuring some of En–Knap Group’s most memorable dance moments, the performance combines humour, curiosity and participation to make contemporary dance approachable and fun. Guided by the virtous skill and warm personality of the dancers, children have a chance to take a look behind the scenes and embark on an interactive adventure of their own. In the second part, students continue with a dance workshop led by our team, exploring some of the themes and ideas they encountered in the performance.

  • Suitable for ➝ primary school 3rd cycle, secondary school
  • Themes ➝ contemporary dance, artistic processes, critical thinking, performing arts.

We bring the performance directly to your school.

Stage360 was designed for both dance audiences and newcomers alike. The format adapts to a very wide range of spaces, allowing dance and choreography to go to new environments and reach audiences with limited access to theatres. Stage360 is well suited to schools, community centres, hospitals, libraries and smaller cultural venues. And while leaving the theatre behind, it does not seek to replace it – rather, it expands their possibilities.

  • During the first school period (45 min), students experience the dance performance through VR headsets. We provide all necessary equipment, including VR headsets, headphones, seating and technical support. No special preparation is required from the school.
  • In the second part (45 min) students continue with a dance and movement workshop led by our team in the gym or another suitable space. Through simple movement tasks and creative exercises, students explore some of the themes and ideas they encountered in the performance.

A witty and captivating masterclass in contemporary dance.

How to understand, but also see oneself and the world in a different light – by way of authentic expression in movement? Following the hit documentary parable piece Beware, Dance! (2010), and the romp and stomp across the history of contemporary dance in Beware, dance! 2 (Take a Chance on Dance) (2015), Beware, Dance! 360 integrates, reworks and revamps its precursors into a participatory virtual journey of discovery and pedagogy, reaching out to youth and their proclivity for audio-visual media.

Beware, Dance! 360 takes up the identity of expression in movement, the search for artistic purpose and the secrets of composition in movement through some of the pivotal moments in contemporary dance. The parable piece also takes on the private life of a dancer and the origin story of dance – ritual, music, identity, storytelling. At its core, the show – and it is a show – ushers contemporary dance for generations of audiences, emancipating dance into art through the gift of artistry, all while bridging the gap between institutional education and performing arts.

As the metaverse moves from teenage bedrooms into everyday life — often accompanied by increasing social isolation — we approach immersive media as collective social experience grounded in human interaction.

Using 360° capture, ambisonic sound and new technologies, this stage invites the spectator inside the performance – closer to the performers than ever before. The viewer’s gaze is free, without a fixed frame. Each spectator becomes the director of their own experience, choosing which part of the 360 sphere to watch, where to focus. This is not simply watching dance, but stepping into it.

En–Knap’s invention Stage360 explores new ways of experiencing dance through virtuality. This is a dance that, in its marriage with technology, transcends the trope that in such reality we are “alone together”, or “together alone”. Through immersion and participation, it allows for the transformation of audience into community, of sociability into sociality.
