Denes Debrei is a performer, actor, pedagogue and theatre maker whose work moves between physical theatre, contemporary dance and performance. After graduating from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, he began his career with the National Theatre in Subotica and the KPGT theatre collective. In 1986, together with director István Lalić, he co-founded the theatre association Letnji bioskop (Summer Cinema), which he continues to lead as artistic director.
Since 1989, Debrei has collaborated closely with choreographer Josef Nadj, performing in numerous productions and international tours of the Centre Chorégraphique National d'Orléans. In 2005, he founded the Centre Mémoire du Corps in Toulouse, dedicated to research into body memory and stage expression. Over the course of his career, he has worked with artists including Iztok Kovač, Min Tanaka, Dušan Jovanović, Nada Kokotović, Tomi Janežič and Boris Liješević. Since 2012, he has been a professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where he combines teaching with ongoing artistic research and the development of experimental theatre projects through Letnji bioskop.
