Mattia Cason (1989, Italy) is En–Knap Group’s artistic director and a dancer. He trained in anthropology and visual arts before turning to the performing arts, studying theatre in Udine and later dance in Tel Aviv at Haqvutza beYafo and The Maslool programme. He has performed with Fresco Dance Company and Inbal Dance Company, collaborating with choreographers across Israel and Europe. Since joining EKG, he has brought a research-driven and interdisciplinary approach to the ensemble’s collective practice. Alongside his work as a dancer, Cason works as a choreographer and director, occasionally as actor. His artistic practice draws on his background in anthropology, exploring images and symbolic landscapes of contemporary and historical Europe through the pre-logical, embodied language of dance. He is the author and artistic director of Progetto E, a project that has toured extensively across the region and introduced a distinctive format of site-specific performances in border areas. Its touring edition followed the Italian frontier from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Croatian Istria and Kvarner, extending the work beyond the conventional theatre stage into a form of public and discursive action. His works were included in the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO!2025. In 2021, Cason received the Premio Scenario for the concept of his original performance Le Etiopiche.
