Claudia de Serpa Soares was a member of En–Knap Group in the 1990s. A Portuguese dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher based in Berlin worked with choreographers including Iztok Kovač and Paulo Ribeiro after studying in Lisbon and at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers, France. In 1999, she joined the dance ensemble of Schaubühne Theatre under the artistic direction of Sasha Waltz. Alongside her long-standing collaboration with Sasha Waltz & Guests as a performer, rehearsal director and assistant, she has worked across dance, theatre, opera and visual arts with numerous international artists and institutions. In recent years, she has increasingly focused on her own choreographic and performative projects, exploring the relationship between movement, memory and presence.
What are we like in our raw, natural state? What unites us? En–Knap Group seeks answers to these questions together with Claudia de Serpa Soares in the new performance Raw (Surovo). The choreographer and dancers explore the notion of emptiness, where every gesture and every movement triggers a change that leads towards the other and ultimately creates a community.
