Rapture II: Portal

Rapture II: Portal is the second part of the Rapture diptych, translating Ukrainian Vogue dancer Marko and his lost home in Donbas into virtual space. His abandoned apartment, which he can no longer access because of the war, is reconstructed through 3D photogrammetry based on original photographs. The virtual reconstruction becomes a form of digitally reclaiming space, while also raising questions about the home as physical territory and the body as a space we carry with us.

The VR film is structured as a hypnotic session in which Marko guides the viewer through the reconstruction of his apartment. The space gradually merges with real 3D scans of destroyed Ukrainian architecture. Elements of Vogue dance also enter the virtual environment, placing the power and precision of the body against its vulnerability in the face of the technologies of war.

Rapture II: Portal expands the notion of “rapture” as a movement between spaces and states of consciousness: through VR, Marko briefly returns to his lost home, while the viewer is temporarily transported into its digital counterpart through a headset and hypnotic voiceover. The installation makes this shift physically visible: during the viewing, the viewer’s shadow is projected onto the screen, connecting them to the exhibition space, the virtual environment and the physical world beyond it.

19 minutes of lost territories and reclaimed identities.
