Batsheva Dance Company was founded in 1964 as a repertoire company by Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild, who appointed Martha Graham as its artistic consultant. During its first decades, the company developed its repertoire through works by leading American and European choreographers as well as new works by Israeli artists.
Ohad Naharin became the company’s artistic director in 1990 and remained in the role until 2018. During this period, Batsheva played an important role in shaping the development of contemporary dance in Israel. Since 2022, the company’s artistic director has been Dr Lior Avizoor, while Dina Aldor has served as CEO since 2009. Batsheva Dance Company is the resident company of the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv.
