Double Bill: Cut Out Raw

One of the creative principles of theatre director Bojan Jablanovec is a reduction of theatre to the relationship between a performer and a spectator in real time and space. A theatre show that wants to question this relationship demands every performer to ask him or herself the following questions: What do I want to get across? Does my message deserve to be presented? Is this really what I want to show? In this way a methodological auto-negation can be one of the means of investigating the basis of a theatrical situation.

bio

Bojan Jablanovec is a Slovenian theatre director, performer, pedagogue and researcher. After working in institutional theatre throughout the 1990s, he turned towards performance research and, in 2002, founded Via Negativa, one of the most influential contemporary performance platforms in Central Europe. His work focuses on the relationship between performer and spectator, exploring theatre as a space of communication, risk and the real. Through Via Negativa, he has developed a distinctive artistic methodology that has shaped generations of performance makers and has been presented at leading international festivals and venues.
