Double Bill: EKG dancers

AMOR FATI – Latin expression for “love of fate” – explores the quiet acceptance of the unexpected, and the defiant embrace of the inevitable – no matter how strange or silly, no matter how sorrowful or sublime. In this duo, the dancers navigate a series of interconnected scenes, each a microcosm of life's unpredictable twists and turns. The performance is a dynamic interplay between structured choreography and improvised responses to the unexpected. Inspired by Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, the piece delves into the themes of generational cycles, isolation, and the interconnectedness of fate and free will. The dancers embody characters caught in a whirlwind of events, their movements reflecting the fluidity of time and the inevitability of certain outcomes. The minimal scenography and subtle costume changes create a sense of fluidity and transformation, mirroring the looping, yet ever-evolving nature of life. By accepting the unexpected and embracing the inevitable, the dancers invite the audience to muse on their own relationship with fate and the beauty of the unknown.

What was is what will be, and what will be was already here.

AMOR FATI is a breath that never fully exhales, a loop that never stops unfolding. What was is what will be, and what will be was already here. A step forward, a step back, nothing lost, nothing gained – just the same rhythm, the same cycle. The forest clears, but the trees remain. The city rises, but the skyline never stays. Clothes change, but something is always missing. Time passes, but the same question remains: how do we build with what we are given? The dance is both a beginning and an end, a laugh, a tear, a moment that exists only to return again. Time moves in circles, but it is not the circle that matters; it is the movement, the constant shifting, the embracing of what cannot be changed. We build, we undo, we rebuild, but we are never further or closer – just caught in the pull of the cycle. AMOR FATI is the knowing that nothing is ever finished, yet it is all exactly as it should be.

Through the shifting landscapes of memory and destiny, two figures build their world from fragments of time, where every loss is a beginning and every step forward is a return. AMOR FATI is the slow unfolding of time's great tapestry, where lives are stitched together in an endless loop of beginnings and ends, fortune and folly. It is the story of two souls who build their world from fragments of the past, carrying with them the echoes of generations lost. Time circles forward and backward, yet it never waits – it merely changes its disguise.

It is an incantation whispered through the ages, a force that shapes destinies as inexorably as the tide shapes the shore. It is a bar at the end of time, a candle burning with an alchemist's green flame, the quiet acceptance of absurdity and the defiant embrace of life as it is given. It is a pair of misplaced high heels and the laughter that follows. It is, in its deepest truth, the love of all that is – no matter how strange or silly, no matter how sorrowful or sublime. Perhaps AMOR FATI was written in the dust long before it was ever danced into being. Perhaps it grew like ivy along the walls of forgotten places, waiting for the right hands to build a home for it. It was born from the desire to move forward while looking back, to lay bricks atop the ruins of memory, to find meaning in the beautiful, imperfect cycle of creation and decay.

Davide Lafabiana & Tamás Tuza

bio

Tamás Tuza is a dancer and choreographer with a flair for contemporary dance – and the occasional dad joke. His journey began in 2005 at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy. In 2010, he joined the En–Knap Group in Ljubljana, where he had dazzled audiences with his gravity-defying moves until 2016. After a brief hiatus (or maybe just a long lunch), he rejoined the group in 2019, and choreographed his full-length dance piece Cogito (2021). Besides dancing, he moonlighted as a movement consultant and choreographer at Slovensko ljudsko gledališče Celje. His passion for teaching has led him to share his wisdom in workshops and dance classes across Slovenia, most notably at the Alma Mater Europaea Dance Academy. While his moves are sharp, his sense of humor is just as nimble. From Romeo and Juliet (movement consultant) to crafting innovative choreography for secretive artistic projects (the less said, the better), his eclectic work keeps audiences on their toes – literally.

Davide Lafabiana's dance journey began with a spark ignited by the Network Internazionale Danza Puglia, under the mentorship of Ezio Schiavulli. Driven by a passion for movement, he pursued further studies at the MP3 Project Academy in Rome, directed by Michele Pogliani. In 2018, he advanced his training at SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, where he was exposed to a diverse range of styles and influences from a broad spectrum of international choreographers and teachers, such as Kristina Alleyne, Edivaldo Ernesto, Maria Kolegova, Nicolas Vladyslav, Milla Koistinen, Paul Blackman, Anna Tenta, Elénore Valère-Lachky, Jarrko Mandelin and many others. After graduating in 2022, he became a member of the En–Knap Group in Ljubljana, where his versatility and dynamic presence continue to flourish.
